Real Chrome Text Effect
This tutorial will show you how to create a Chrome effect on text using the Chrome gradient provided on the
Gradients
page.

Download the Chrome gradient on the Gradients page and unzip the file. Place the Chrome Jasc PSP gradient file in the Gradients folder in the directory MYPSP8Files.

Now open Paint Shop Pro 8 and create a new image file 400 x 100 pixels. Choose your background color and then select the Text tool.
The text shown in this tutorial is the IMPACT font set at 72 points BOLD and create it as Floating text.
Type the word Chrome as an example. Once its typed, click the Apply button. PSP will place a selection Marquee around the text.
Now go to the Main Menu bar and select Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel. When the Inner Bevel dialog window opens enter the values shown below.
Now let's darken the text a little using the Levels command. Go to the Main Menu bar and select Adjust > Brightness and Contrast > Levels. Then set the center diamond slider to the value shown (68) by moving the slider to the right.
Now let increase the contrast a bit using the Auto Contrast Enhancement feature. Go to the Photo Toolbar and select Enhance Photo > Automatic Contrast Enhancement. In the dialog window set the Bias, Strength and Appearnce as shown.
At this point you should have the text with the appearance shown below. We are almost there. To bring out the shiny effect of Chrome, we need to sharpen the text a bit using the Unsharp Mask filter. The USM will sharpen mid to high contrast edges. In doing so, it will provide the shinyness we need.
As a final step, I've added a Star Glint to enhance the illusion of reflection. The end result is the image below.
